What does Separation Anxiety look like and can it be treated?
Separation Anxiety is a panic disorder that can cause significant distress for you and your dog. In fact, separation anxiety affects over 15 million dogs and their people in the U.S. alone. When left alone, symptoms may include destruction of items in the home, prolonged barking or crying, peeing and pooping when left along, or even self-harm. We understand how stressful this can be for both you and your dog. Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix, such as crate training, to resolve these issues. This can, in fact, exacerbate the problem.
The good news is that there is a ton of scientific research being conducted on Separation Anxiety. Shelley Harrison (MS Applied Behavior Analysis, CTP-KPA, CSAT), our lead behaviorist, is a certified Separation Anxiety Professional through the Malena DeMartini program. Malena has written the leading book on Separation Anxiety, and utilizes the most up-to-date research to build an effective program in treating separation anxiety. You can work with Shelley 1:1 to create a customized plan to help both you and your pup.
The program includes:
A weekly live assessment
Daily customized plan based on your pup’s progress
